MASJID REBUILD PROJECT UPDATE – CHARITY ACCOUNT REGISTERED

Urgent Appeal: Rebuild Our Masjid & Transform Our Community

Our masjid rebuild project is an ambitious three-phase plan, with an estimated cost of £1,500,000 for Phase 1. This new facility is designed to serve our growing community better and provide a multitude of services.

Key Features of the New Masjid:

• Multiple Floors: The building will consist of multiple floors with a range of facilities
• Ground Floor Parking: Ground floor includes 20+ car parking spaces, 2 disabled parking spaces, cyclist parking, and dedicated funeral car space
• Prayer Facilities: Separate floors for men and women musalees with overflow facilities on the 1st floor for men. Men will pray on the ground floor with limited spaces to pray, while women will have their dedicated space on the 2nd floor
• Madrasah: There will be separate madrasah classes for boys and girls that also include separate ablution facilities
• Community Centre & Body Wash Services: The new masjid will feature with community rooms, body wash facilities, and the masjid office
• Operational Lift: The masjid will be equipped with an operational lift for easy access to all floors to accommodate those that have limited mobility
• Building Coverage: The rebuild will cover the area including the existing building and the car park at the rear and parallel to it. The front area will remain unoccupied, providing additional disabled parking spaces
• Multiple Entrances: Three entrances to ensure smooth access – two for men and one for women

• the masjid committee submitted a pre-application plan in relation to the Masjid extension in April 2022
• due to delays and backlogs with Birmingham City Council, the council have only responded to the pre-application plan submission in January 2023
• the council have stated that pre-application plan submission in its current form is not acceptable due to reasons below;
  • the car parking layout to the front of the masjid
  • the location site of the extension to the rear of the masjid which detracts from the building line of properties backing into Billesley common

• the committee are therefore in ongoing discussion with the architect for the project to come up with an amended proposal which would be more acceptable in planning terms
